How does Orchapred gel work?
Its new advanced vehicle is a mucoadhesive gel (Carbomer 3mg/g + Polyvinyl alcohol 10mg/g).
The Carbomer and tear mucin interact and form non-covalent bonds which trap in the PVA forming the three dimensional hydrogel meshwork.
The hydrogel formula increases the amount of prednisolone penetration into the cornea and aqueous humour.
The gel vehicle will provide
- Increase in the viscosity of the drops.
- Reduction in the drainage of the drops.
- Prolonged precorneal contact time.
- Enhanced drug bioavailability, thus an increase in concentration in the intraocular tissues.
- Reduced frequency of administration.
- A soothing effect upon application.
