How Tears Guard is Different?
Tears guard is an artificial tears preserved with a disappearing preservative (sodium
perborate ) which is
converted into pure water and oxygen when in
contact with the eye tissues by anti oxidant enzymes ( catalase , superoxide
dismutase , Glutathione peroxidase ) .
Because patients with dry eye may be more susceptible to preservative toxicity; such patients may not produce
sufficient tears to dilute a harmful preservative. Any patient who uses
multiple preserved drugs increases the concentration of preservatives on
the ocular surface. High concentrations of preservatives or repeated exposure to
preservatives
increase the chances of adverse effects.
With the disappearing preservative:
- No more ocular tissue toxicity
- No fear of preservative allergy
- No effect on tear lipid layer
- No irritation or burning sensation
